The surroundings, the excursions and the festivals you can't miss!
El Molino Santisteban is a perfect base for daytrips to the several Andalucian cities and small villages.
Málaga with the Picasso Museum, Carmen Thyssen Museum, a lively centre and the beautiful restored Alcazaba and Roman amphitheatre. The new harbour has a modern design and the place has a real Spanish feel.
Ronda with its spectacular setting less than an hour drive from El Molino Santisteban.
Many Plueblos Blancos (white villages) like Guaro, Tolox, Alozaina and Casarabonela founded by the Moors and Romans. We have several maps and know exactly where to eat, drink and be away from the tourists.
Marbella has a nice old centre, for more glitter and glamour Puerto Banus is the place to go.
Granada with the Alhambra, Córdoba with the Mesquita, Antquera and Sevilla are reachable within 1 to 2 hours from El Molino Santisteban.
The great local festivals:
Guaro has, apart from the general public holidays and fiestas, two fiestas of its own. In the second and third week of September the famous “Luna Mora” is celebrated. This fiesta sees Guaro change into a Moorish bazaar. All over town, music and performances from artists from all over Andalucía are to be seen. At night the town is illuminated with thousands of candles.
Around mid-May every year the “Romeria San Isidro” takes place. From Guaro the inhabitants come down the hill accompanied by the holy statue to celebrate at the riverbank, only 100 meters from El Molino Santisteban, with music, drinks and a huge paella. Everybody is welcome.
Many villages have their own festivities. We are well informed and can advice you where and when to go.
